“Brisbane seems a fertile ground for alt-folkies of the country vein, and you’ve previously worked with The Gin Club on their Junk release. How have you found the camaraderie amongst your peers?

Because I’ve lived and performed in Brisbane for over 10 years I feel like I’ve grown up with many of the people involved in that scene. We may not see each other often, but because we’ve all been doing it together for so long, it somehow feels like we’re all distant relatives and gigs are our family reunions. Generally we all admire and support each other, and I’d like to think we are all proud of each others achievements.”

Sue Ray will be returning to her hometown of Toowoomba to perform alongside Perths bad boys of country The Kill Devil Hills. Bon Amici Cafe will be hosting the event on Saturday 6th February at 8pm. Also playing will be Brisbane band Blackwater Fever. The Kill Devil Hills are currently touring Australia to promote their new album – Man, You should explode. Naturally the album is an outstanding display of Australian alt country and has been receiving rave reviews from coast to coast. Meadowfoot play The Troubadour January 28th

Sue will be appearing on Friday the 5th of June at Milano’s stage and starting at 5:30pm will deliver three 30 minute sets (5:30pm 6:30pm 7:30pm) of old-school country and ambient folk originals to the bustling crowds.

Visiting fans and interested passers by will have the oppurtunity to purchase copies of the debut mini-album “Best Beware” plus T-shirts and other items from the merchandise table beside the performance area.

Recorded by Jamie Trevaskis at Junkship Records in late 2007, the seven track mini-album marks the anticipated emergence of an important Australian musical treasure who has played a large part in promoting, supporting and enriching independent music from behind the scenes for years.

Sue’s musical career has been long and distinguished, marked by such highlights that include opening for Keith Podger of The Seekers, gracing the main stage at the 2008 Tamworth Country Music Festival, performing alongside Brisbane favorites Shifter, Darren Hanlon, Texas Tea and most recently contributing backing vocals to The Gin Clubs runaway hit album “Junk”.

Of her many acts of support and shameless promotion of local artists, Sue is unapologetic and urges everybody to “go support local music, its a good cause and it sure beats knitting or baking muffins.”

Sue’s musical background stretches back to childhood where she spent her spare time in the Toowoomba musical instrument shop owned by her father, fellow musician Owen Ray. “My father is my biggest inspiration,” says Sue, who cut her teeth in the country music festival circuit playing duets with him.

The mini-album, “Best Beware”, is an important milestone for Sue who has become well known for her live performances. The collection of songs is a diverse ensemble that captures the essence of old school country and contemporary ambient sounds that her fans have come to know and love.

The official launch of “Best Beware” will kick off at The Troubadour at 8pm where Sue Ray will perform mainstay favorites alongside tracks from the mini-album. Special guests include Cameron Elliot, Timothy Caroll, Mio Min Mio and Ling Kai.
